New junior swim session - first 2 weeks free - starts 21st Jan

BTC Juniors Swim Development Group

In conjunction with Bolton Metro Swimming Squad (BMSS) we have organised an additional
swimming session for junior swimmers (7-16 year olds). This session will be coached by BMSS’s head coach Mike Robinson and will be at Smithills school on Thursday evening from 745pm – 9 pm.

This will be a BMSS session and therefore swimmers will be obliged to join BMSS and the Amateur Swimming Association. Because this is a new scheme that is starting, BTC have agreed to pay the ASA membership of any junior who does not already have this (normally £14.50). All BMSS swimmers pay for sessions by standing order and this will apply to this session also.

The costs are:

  • BMSS membership - £15
  • Monthly Standing Order (payable on 1st of month) - £10

Given the quality of the coaching that will be provided this is excellent value for money.

In the first instance, this will be open to the top two groups (usually coached by Stuart & Aiden). This excludes those swimmers who are already members of BMSS: their training requirements are better served by attending their usual BMSS session.

There is a limit to the number of swimmers so allocation of places will be first come first served. We are planning to start next Thursday (21/1/16) and so all parents who wish their child(ren) to be considered please e-mail juniors@boltontri.com providing the swimmers names as soon as possible.

BMSS will be providing the first two sessions free of charge (Standing orders are to be set up to run from 1st Feb)

Although the session is late evening this scheme represents an exceptional opportunity for our swimmers at a very modest cost and is wholeheartedly recommended by the coaches. Swimmers from Tri Club who attended a similar scheme a couple of years ago made astonishing progress.

2016 membership due, save £5 by renewing before 1st Feb

2016 membership fees are now due and can be paid on-line. We will no longer be using paper membership forms. Go to the website http://www.boltontri.com/membership.html and click the on-line application button in the top right of the page. Members who have renewed say it is very straightforward.

You do not need to download the medical/consent form from the club website as this info will be collected in the on-line membership application. This download is only there for people coming to a club session for the first time before joining.

As agreed at the AGM last night the adult membership fee, the family membership fee and the swim only membership fee will all increase by £5 on 1st Feb. In return 2016 membership will also cover ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) fees for anyone attending the BMSS run swim sessions for adults. At the moment members have to pay separately to join the ASA after attending 3 of these sessions and this costs £14.30.

These BMSS run sessions are the Tuesday morning swim at Farnworth 5.30 to 7 am, the Wed night swim at Smithills now at 8.30 to 9.45 pm and the Sunday session at Smithills 3 to 4 pm. By making this change we hope to remove any barriers to members attending these swims and also take some pressure off the Saturday Farnworth swim and the Wed night swim at Ladybridge, both of which can get very crowded.

Any members not renewed by 1st March will be taken off the membership e-mail distribution list and will not be able to attend any more sessions until they have renewed

More news from the AGM to follow. This year we will be using the blog more to inform you all of club activities and races so save it to your favourites  http://www.boltontri.blogspot.co.uk/ or check it regularly via the website

New time for Smithills swim session which restarts on Wed 20th Jan

Smithhills pool is closed for essential repair work. This means our first session there this year will be on Wed 20th Jan. The session used to be on Thursday. It will now be 8.30 to 9.45 pm. It will still be coached by Lucas Siska and the reason it changed is due to him starting a new job which involves working on Thursday evenings. The Ladybridge Wed night session will continue as normal. So you will be able to choose from either session and both are covered by the club's standing order scheme.
