Social bike ride Sunday 24th April - juniors age 14+ as well

Hi all

Andy Bassett and I are going to lead a bike ride on Sunday over the Holcombe Duathlon route starting from the crossroads in Edgeworth village at 9.30 am. It is 27km and we will stop at Clough Head visitor centre cafe for refreshments after the long steady climb up Haslingden Grane. Apart from that climb the rest of the ride is on quiet roads and the whole route is all left turns. The last section along Broadhead Road is beautiful. A map is attached.

There is a small car park near the crossroads in Edgeworth in front of the Medical Centre and behind the White Horse pub. We will assemble there. The postcode is BL7 0DU

We are keen to encourage any juniors 14 to 19 to join us.

New sessions and help requests

Monday Nights

Spinning sessions have been extended to 2 consecutive ones which members attend for either the first or second 45 minutes or double up for extra impact.
Running is very popular and we would like to introduce a rota (as we did with the spinning) to support the existing coaches and to cover holiday periods over the summer. If you would be willing to be part of a running coaching rota please contact Julia on secretary@boltontri.com

Thursday Run Sessions

Mark Loates has kindly volunteered to act as run leader for 14+ members at 7.45pm from 21st April. This will last one hour and can therefore happen in parallel with juniors attending the Smithills swimming session.

Members should arrive in kit and ready to run at 7.45 on the playground near the pool. This session is free of charge.

Friday cycle skills training followed by strength and conditioning

These are now underway with cycling for adults & children from 6.30 for an hour followed by Andy Bassett's strength & conditioning session for 45 minutes. Members should have their bikes ready for the session & there are some bikes for youngsters to loan if they get there in good time

Saturday extra swimming session

Given the popularity of the 4-5.30 Saturday Adult swim in Farnworth we are trialling an additional session at the same time for top 3 lane swimmers at Bolton School from the 16th April. We would be grateful for any coaches who volunteer for cover and extra capacity for these sessions on a rota  and for anyone who could offer to help with collecting money. In either case if you could help please contact me at the above email address

Many thanks Julia

Your club needs you - Horwich Tri - Sunday 1st March

Each year we get £1000 for club funds for marshalling the Horwich Triathlon which is organised by Epic Events. This money goes to good use. For example last year we bought 4 new turbo trainers for club sessions and 4 junior road bikes that are well used at sessions and can be borrowed for events. We paid for training courses for 4 coaches so we could put on more sessions for members. We had a free swim session at Christmas in the 50m pool at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. The £1k from Horwich Tri goes towards such things

So here is a chance to do your bit for the club. There are 21 jobs on the day. If we get enough volunteers we can split the 13 run, bike and transition marshal jobs into two 3 hour shifts so that requires 34 volunteers

Please let me know asap if you can help for the whole event, an early shift or a later shift. Marshals also get a free entry to an Epic Event of their choice.

We need 1 registration helper 6.20 to 11am
Pool marshals 6.50 to 1pm
Bike marshals Time vary between 7.15 and 2pm
Run marshals Times vary between 8.20 and 14.30
Transition/Mount/Dismount marshals 7.00 to 14.30
Help with setting up transition and putting up course signs on Saturday 2pm

looking forward to replies
