2018 Club Grand Prix and Club Championship races

Club Grand Prix and Club Championships

We are running a club Grand Prix again in 2018. At the last AGM members asked us to run Grand Prix to encourage members to do events with their club mates and to encourage a bit of competition within the club. The committee have selected the following events for 2018. We have been requested to include a middle distance event which we have done. We have included 3 standard and 3 sprint distance races, a duathlon and an aquabike (swim/bike). They are listed below. We have tried to avoid the most expensive events. Most events get booked up well beforehand so get planning. Men and women will be scored separately

The scoring system will be 50 points for first club finisher, 45 for second, 40 for third, 39 for fourth, 38 for fifth, 37 for sixth and so on plus points for age group finish position in the whole race. If you finish 1st in your triathlon age group you get 40 - 1 = 39 points. If you finish 2nd in your age group you get 40 -2 = 38 points and so on. If you are 40th or below in age group you get 1 point. Triathlon age groups are in 5 year bands

For each member their 5 best scores from events will count

Training Plan for an Olympic Distance Triathlon

Maybe you are planning to do an An Olympic Distance Triathlon, also known as Standard Distance Triathlon in the summer. It is a 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. Here is a 12 week plan to get you up to the required fitness for race day. Up until then, over the winter and spring, you need to build up your endurance and aerobic fitness by training at steady pace and gradually increasing distances. Also time spent perfecting your swim technique and doing some strength and conditioning work will both pay off later. For other race distances just scale training distances up or down.
Good Luck

Weekly training schedule updates

The Friday night bike session has finished for the winter and will start again next year 13th April to 28th September 2018.
The Wednesday night run session at Bolton Arena track starts at 6.45pm not 6.30 as stated on the website
The Thursday night junior swim session 7.45 to 9pm at Smithills School is now a Bolton Tri Club session. It is open to any juniors 16 and under who are in the advanced or intermediate groups at Farnworth (the top four lanes) or are at that standard. It will be included in the standing order scheme for those who subscribe to it or it will be £3 for members who are 'pay as you go'.

Run Time Trials

Head Coach Lukas tried out a new format for run time trials over the autumn and winter. 800m/3200m/800m with 2:00 min rest intervals. The aim is to reduce the total time and to also run same or faster time for the second 800m. Here are the results. Look out for next time trials in approx 6 weeks time

Club Grand Prix Standings

After 7 events Simon Baker leads the men's standings with 280 points, closely followed by Andy Taylor on 255 points, then Stuart Carter on 191 and Steve Spamer on 135. There are 3 more events and at the end of the season the best 5 scores count. Another 23 members have done 2 or more events so there is still plenty to play for. The women's grand prix is even more open since only one member had done 3 events so far. Up to date standings will be published soon. Points are worked out by a combination of finish position out of all BTC entrants and by age group position in the event

The 9 events and Grand Prix rules can be viewed here The last 3 events are Aug 27th West Lancs Sprint Tri, Sept 10th Fleetwood Tri and 8th October Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon sprint or standard distances

Farnworth swim 800m time trial 18th March

The time trial was an 800m swim and the goal for swimmers is 2017 is to get as close as possible to or lower than their previous time for broken 800m time trials done at the end of 2016. The final column compares the 800m swim time to the broken 800m time. A minus means the swimmer actually went quicker than their time for the broken 800 which was 200/400/200 with 30 second rest intervals. So well done Sam, Kath and Dave who went faster and Aiden who got very close. Next time trail in May.
